Like many other carmakers, Chevrolet has also planned to offer an electric version of its best-selling truck. The American car company hasn’t disclosed much information about the Silverado EV on its website, but what we know so far is that the EV is available for commercial clients only, and it will be available for retail customers in the first six months of 2024.

Main Changes From Previous Models

The ZR2 trim comes now standard with a Duramax 3.0L Turbo Diesel engine, making this version more fuel efficient. In 2023, the ZR2 came standard with the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine only which returns 15 miles per gallon in the city on rear-wheel drive, whereas the Turbo Diesel has 23 mpg in the same conditions.

And lastly, the Turbomax blackout appearance package which includes among other things, the black painted aluminum wheels, and black accents like the emblems, names, and black assist steps, is now available on Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, and LT Trail Boss models. Before it was an option only for Custom and Custom Trail Boss trims.

What Do The Experts Say?

Car And Driver

The American automotive enthusiast magazine based in Michigan highlights the following features of the Chevy Silverado:

  • Ample selection of powertrains
    • And they are right! For the Silverado 1500, there are 3 types of engines available:
      • 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8
      • 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8
      • Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo Diesel
    • And for Silverado HD you can choose from 2 types:
      • Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo Diesel V8
      • 6.6-liter V8 Gas Engine

On another hand, they call out the following downsides:

  • The interior is not very impressive
  • Lack of a more sports version similar to the Raptor in the Ford F-150

Overall, they recommend the LT version since this is the trim where the nicer interiors start.

Edmunds

This popular expert car review website deems as pros the following features:

  • The availability of powertrains for different towing needs
  • Attractive long touchscreen
  • The crew cabin offers great leg room for the passengers in the rear seat.

…and the cons?

  • The ZR2 off-road trim is subpar compared to other trucks in the same category.

Their recommendation is similar to Car and Driver. They suggest first taking a look at the LT version since it offers a great bang for your buck. Also, because it is the first trim level to offer all 3 options of engines

Motortrend

Lastly, here is what the California-based review site says about the 2024 Silverado as pro:

  • The impressive powertrain options available to customer
  • The nice 13.4-inch big screen for the infosystem

And remarkable cons?

  • The lack of improvements in the interior of the basic models

Their recommended trim is the ZR2, which although is not cheap, it comes with nice interiors and the suspension system is nice for off-road adventures.

The Conclusion

After summarizing the pros and cons of the experts, it is clear that what they all love is the 6 different engines you can choose to equip the Silverado. Whether you are looking for a powerful truck for heavy-duty or a decent truck for daily work, with the vast customizable option offered by Chevrolet, you can certainly find your perfect match.

Also, most of them, including myself, love the long displays available: 13.4-inch infosystem display and 12.3-inch digital dashboard – I wonder if the EV model will beat these!

Talking about to the downside, the experts don’t like much the interior of the truck for being old or not very impressive.

I think the interiors are very roomy, especially if we look at the Crew Cab which has 43.40 inches of legroom in the rear seat, that’s even more than in many sedans. And in terms of interior design, if you like the old American traditional style, then the 2024 Chevy Silverado might be right for you.
