These Are The 6 Cheapest Electric Cars In The U.S. Right Now

Most Americans are still concerned about the prices of EVs in the country. With prices around $50,000 for a new electric vehicle, it’s fair to think that getting a cheap gasoline car is better.

Not all the time the gas savings you can get in an electric vehicle can justify its high cost at the dealership. However, there are some unpopular electric models that will change your mind.

The experts at InsideEVs have gathered a list of all the EVs in the market in 2024. But in this article, we will show you the 6 cheapest models and whether they are worth buying or not. Keep in mind that these numbers do not include taxes or other fees that your local dealership may charge.

Here’s a heads up: the last 2 models on this list are discontinued and have limited inventory.

2024 Fiat 500e RED

The classic Fiat 500, the smallest member of the Fiat family is now available in its electric version: the 2024 Fiat 500e Red.

Right now, on Fiat’s website, this model is shown with a starting MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) of $32,500 plus a $1,595 “destination fee”. A total of $34,095.

The 500e Red offers up to 162 city miles with a single battery charge – Let’s be honest here, this is lower than the average driving range for an EV which is around 250 miles.

But we think it is ideal for small commuting in the city. The maximum speed the Fiat 500e reaches is 94 miles, thus you won’t have problems driving on most interstate highways with this car.

2024 Hyundai Kona Electric

The 2024 Hyundai Kona electric is currently shown at a $32,675 starting price. The Limited and SEL trim levels offer 261 miles of driving range.

It can take up to 5 hours to charge its battery with a charger level 2 which is typically the one you can install at home, or you can charge it in 43 minutes using a public Fast Charger.

A cool feature of this car is that you can use your iPhone to unlock it using a digital key in Apple Wallet – How great it is to now worry about your car keys!

2024 Mini Cooper Electric Hardtop

This model is available today at a starting price of $30,900.

According to Mini Cooper’s website, this model offers pretty much the same vibe as the well-known gasoline-engine Mini Cooper: 2 doors, 4 seats, and similar size and interior space – So far so good.

You can expect a decent acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in only 6.9 seconds. The driving range in this model, in another hand, is estimated to be only 114 miles – This is even lower than the Fiat 500c Red.

Something to highlight about this car is how fast you can recharge it. It is compatible with any of the 3 different charges that exist today, but if you use a fast charging station, this car will be recharged and ready to go in 36 minutes.

2024 Nissan Leaf

If you are a fan of Asian cars, pay attention. The 2024 Nissan Leaf is shown today at a starting price of $28,140.

The Nissan Leaf comes in two trim levels: The S, which is the basic version and offers up to 149 miles of driving range. If this is not enough range for you, take a look at the SV Plus trim.

The Leaf SV Plus has a starting price of $36,190 and you can expect up to 212 miles of driving range

Charging times? Nissan says that to charge the battery up to 80%, it can take 45 minutes when connected to a fast charger (100 kW/ DC).

2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

This and the following car are the only 2023 models on the list.

This is because Chevrolet has decided to discontinue the production of this model until further notice.

However, the current prices of the Chevy Bolt in addition to the $7,500 tax credit from the Federal government make this model even more affordable than a gasoline car.

As of today, Chevrolet’s website is showing a starting price for the Bolt EUV of $27,800.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that this Chevy has a driving range of up to 247 miles and with this, you can save $5,000 in fuel costs in 5 years.

2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV

With a starting price of $26,500, this is the ultimate cheapest new electric vehicle available right now.

This model also qualifies for the $7,500 tax credit discount and the EPA estimates that you can save up to $5,000 in gasoline in 5 years.

This model delivers up to 259 miles of driving range – Unbeatable by any other EV on this list!

According to Chevrolet’s website, you can charge up to 100 miles of driving range to this car in only 30 minutes in a public fast charging station.
