These Are The Best 6 Midsize Trucks In The U.S. In 2024 According To Edmunds

Last Updated 2 years ago

Sometimes the best trucks are not necessarily the largest or the heavy-duty ones. We can still get a nice performance and great gasoline efficiency if we look at what carmakers have to offer in other models.

Rather than just wishing one day to buy a large pick-up truck, we can take a look at other pick-up truck models in the midsize range that are available in the U.S.

Whether you are looking to buy a new truck or just want to know what is up in the pickup truck market this year, we got you covered. Edmunds, the American car research company just released their latest ranking of the “Best Trucks of 2024 and 2025”.

From the lowest position to the highest, these are the top 6 midsize trucks in America according to Edmunds:

6 – Ford Ranger

Ford knows how to make trucks, and there is no doubt about it. A simple Google search is enough to see that the Ford F-Series has been the top-selling truck in the country for more than 40 years.

If you are looking for a nice Ford truck but at a lower cost than the starting price of $36,570 of the F-150, we have good news for you, the starting price for the 2024 Ranger is at $32,670 in the version XL.

This year, Ford equips the Ranger with a 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. However, if you are looking for a more powerful truck, then it would be worth it to give a look to the Ranger Raptor. This version comes with a turbocharged engine of 3.0 liters V6 at a starting price of $55,470.

5 – Nissan Frontier

If you thought that the engine in the Ford Ranger was big, then the Nissan Frontier will amaze you. Nissan has put in this truck a 3.8 liter V6 engine with 310 horsepower.

This powerful engine can tow up to 6,170 lbs. and has a payload capacity of 1,220 lbs. maximum.

With a truck like this, you can tow an RV across the country without issues in your next camping adventure. And you can find it at a starting price of $29,930 for the 2024 model.

Also, the Japanese automaker is still offering two versions of interior: the Crew Cab with enough seats for 5 passengers, or the King Cab, with its 2 auxiliary seats allowing for up to 4 passengers, not to mention the rear doors which open to the opposite direction allowing a huge opening area.

4 – Jeep Gladiator

Jeep might not be the first brand that comes to mind when talking about midsize trucks. Surprisingly, the Jeep Gladiator made it to this list in a great position. The only “open-air pickup truck in the industry”, as it is claimed by Jeep, can be found at a starting MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) of $38,990 – More expensive than the previous 2 trucks in this ranking.

But here is why…

The Gladiator has 7,700 lbs. towing capacity and 1,710 lbs. payload -This is also more than the Nissan Frontier and the Ford Ranger.

Something to take into account is that the 2023 Gladiator is the last year that Jeep will offer the 3.0L EcoDiesesl V6 engine. The diesel engine will not be available anymore.

3 – Toyota Tacoma

If you are looking for a truck manufactured by the same company that builds the best-selling sedan and the best-selling SUV in America, then you must take a look at the Toyota Tacoma.

The reputation of Toyota in those other categories only tells us that the Japanese carmaker knows what it’s doing.

You can find the 2024 Tacoma starting at $31,500 in the SR basic version. And, following the trend of most Asian automakers, this model is also available in a gas-electric hybrid that combines a 2.4-liter turbocharged powertrain with a 48-hp electric motor.

2 – Honda Ridgeline

Since its launch in the U.S. in 2005, the Honda Ridgeline has offered a sedan-like interior with a spacious bed ready for most hard work.

The 2024 model has a starting MSRP of $39,750 – This is the most expensive truck on this list!

It is equipped with a V6 gas engine and it’s capable of towing up to 5,000 lbs.

And when we say the Honda Ridgeline has an interior sedan-like look, we mean it. It has a standard 9-inch touchscreen display compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And ample interiors with plenty of room to accommodate up to 5 passengers.

1 – Chevrolet Colorado

The most affordable midsize truck in this ranking is also classified as the Truck of the Year by Motortrend.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado has a starting price of $29,500 and a surprising maximum towing of 7,700 lbs. – Such powerful towing capacity is only found in the Jeep Gladiator.

And not only is the performance amazing. Looking at the interior, the Chevy Colorado has an 11.3-inch display infosystem AND up to 11-inch display dashboard for the driver with compatibility with Apple and Android car systems.

This truck has everything to enjoy pure adrenaline off-road activities to nice commuting. You can select from 6 different versions: WT (which is the most affordable option), LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 (the most luxurious version at a starting price of $46,800).
